What Engines Are Available for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler?
Four engines make up the Jeep Wrangler engine lineup. Standard equipment is a 3.6-Liter V6 that puts out 260 lb-ft of torque and 285 horsepower. The V6 engine is paired with Jeep's Command-Trac 4x4 system, providing phenomenal traction on and off-road. The next available engine is a 2.0 L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine that puts out 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes as standard equipment on the Sahara and High Altitude trims. Replacing the Command-Trac 4x4 system is Jeep's Selec-Trac 4x4 system. Available for the Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trims is the 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system. By pairing the 2.0L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a 400-volt 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack the 4xe system gives the Wrangler 49 MPGe, 370 miles of total driving, and 21 miles of all-electric driving. In addition to the excellent fuel economy, the 4xe system gives the Wrangler phenomenal capability with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Last but certainly not least is the 6.4 L HEMI V8. Exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon 392, the HEMI engine delivers 475 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque.
Jeep Wrangler 4x4 System Options
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler comes with three available 4x4 systems. Standard equipment is Command-Trac 4x4. This part-time 4x4 system gives the driver the ability to shift between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive on-the-fly to manually adapt to changes in the driving conditions. Meanwhile, Selec-Trac 4x4 Is a full-time automatic 4x4 system. This puts the system in control, automatically shifting between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive by continuously reading road conditions and making the necessary adjustments to the torque distribution. Lastly, exclusive to the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the Rock-Trac 4x4 system. Another part-time 4x4 system, Rock-Trac provides a gear ratio of 4 to 1 while in 4-low mode. This means that for every four rotations of the transmission output shaft, the transfer case output shaft will turn the wheels once. The result of this lower gear ratio is unrivaled traction while crawling over rugged terrain at low speeds.
